Day 1:
Whitehorse
Individual arrival in Whitehorse, at the airport you will be met by our local tour guide and transferred to the hotel where we will meet the rest of the group.
Day 2: Whitehorse - Skagway
After breakfast we will explore the capital of the Yukon and then start on the first part of our trip driving south to Skagway / Alaska on the Klondike Highway. We will stop at the Carcross desert - the smallest desert in the world-and will admire the beauty of Lake Emerald, which is also called the Rainbow Lake by the locals because of its sensational watercolours. After that we will hike for the first time to Mountain Montana, where we will watch some animals and look out to the Lakes Nares and Bennet. Then continue our drive to Skagway, where we will stop for the night. (Skagway, overnight in hotel). Hiking time 3-4 hours, Length 6km, Altitude 400m.
Day 3: Skagway – Haines Junction
Skagway- once the gate to the greatest gold rush of all time! We will hike a short section of the famous Chilkoot Trail, which was once the way leading to the gold rivers. Later that afternoon we will aboard the ferry which will lead us through the Lynn Fjords. Arriving at the harbour of Haines we will continue to drive to Haines Junction. Shortly after leaving the pacific coast we will pass the Valley of the Bald Eagles. The Haines Road offers plenty of opportunities to see the breathtaking view of the mountains. Passing the Lakes Dezedash and Kathleen we arrive at Haines Junction. (Haines Junction, overnight in hotel). Hiking time 4 hours, Length 12km, Altitude 200 m.
Day 4: Haines Junction (Kluane National Park)
Today we will spend all day hiking through the Kluane National Park which is the largest national park Canada's. In its original pristine setting. We will hike on one of many trails leading to Sheep Mountain with the view to Kluane Lake. (Haines Junction, overnight in hotel). Hiking time 5 hours, Length 14km, Altitude 350m.
Day 5: Haines Junction - Whitehorse
We will spend the morning hiking another trail in the Kluane National Park called the Auriol Trail which will take about 4 hours. Haines Junction also offers a great variety of optional activities. How about a helicopter flight over the glaciers of the park or exploring the park on the back of a horse? In the early evening we will continue on the two hour drive to Whitehorse via the Alaska Highway. On our way there we will stop at an Indian Village called Champagne and at a dog musher who breeds huskies. (Whitehorse, overnight in hotel). Hiking time 4 hours, Length 12km, Altitude 300m.
Day 6: Whitehorse – Dawson City
On our way to Dawson City we will stop at the Beringia Centre, a museum featuring prehistoric facts about the ice ages. On our journey to Dawson City we will travel parallel to the Yukon River, which is with 3200km one of the longest rivers in North America. Dawson City offers a wide variety of historic sites which are easily accessible on foot. At the end of the day we will visit the Diamond Tooth Casino featuring the Cancan-Dance girls. (Dawson City, overnight in hotel). Hiking time 2-3 hours, Length 6km, Altitude 300m.
Day 7: Dempster Highway
After getting up real early we will drive up the Dempster Highway which is 730 km long and is the only connection to the peak of Inuvik at the Polar Sea. We will start our hike at the foot of the Tombstone Mountains; this will lead us into the tundra of this mountain range, where every season has its unique attraction. (Dawson City, overnight in hotel). Hiking time: 4 hours, Length 10km, Altitude 550m.
Day 8: Dawson City - Tok
Today we will leave the Klondike and continue on a ferry over the Yukon River on to the " Top of the World Highway", one of the most beautiful and spectacular high roads of North America. We will cross the highest borderline between Canada and the US at Little Gold Creek. During this drive we will have many opportunities for short hikes along the way. (Tok, overnight in hotel).
Day 9: Tok - Anchorage
Going west on the Glenn Highway we travel to Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska. On our way there we will pass the Matanuska Glacier and the Lion Head, a mountain range situated on the highway. Before we reach Anchorage we will also pass through the Mat-Su Valley which is famous for its agricultural meaning to the area. Arriving in Anchorage you will have the chance visit several museums, typical American malls or one of the many microbreweries in town.
Day 10: Anchorage - Seward
Today on our way to Seward we will see the magnificent Turnagain Arm which is known for its powerful tidal waves. We then drive to the Portage Glacier and on to the Peninsula Kenai. Several trails invite you to enjoy the plush vegetation. Or you could take part in one of our optional activities that will include a helicopter ride to the top of the Godwin Glacier, and a dogsled ride on the Glacier. (Seward, overnight in hotel). Hiking time 2-3 hours, Length 6km, Altitude 200m.
Day 11: Seward
Today you will have the opportunity to take advantage of many optional tours. How about taking a 6 hour boat ride into the Kenai Fjords National Park which will give you the best opportunities to watch wildlife or take in the glaciers floating into the open sea. Worth while is also a visit to the Alaska Sea Life Centre, a saltwater aquarium or enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the best seafood places in town. (Seward, overnight in hotel). Hiking time 3-4 hours, Length 10 km.
Day 12: Seward – Denali National Park
We are leaving the Pacific coastline with its unique climate and are heading north on the Seward Highway and the George Parks Highway to the Denali National Park. Arriving at the National Park you have the option to fly on a one hour glacier flight near Mount McKinley. (Overnight in hotel close to park entrance). Hiking time 2 hours, Length 4 km, Altitude 300m.
Day 13: Denali National Park
One of the many highlights on this trip. In the morning we will drive with a shuttle bus into the park for our Wildlife tour, where if weather permitting you can see Mount McKinley in its majestic glory. If lucky we will get to see wolves, elk and grizzly bears. We will hike through the park during the day and return to the hotel in the evening. Overnight in hotel close to park entrance. Hiking time 3-4 hours, Length 11km, Altitude 400m.
Day 14: Denali National Park - Anchorage
We will reach Anchorage in the early afternoon where you will have more opportunities to explore this great city. We can recommend the Aviation museum or maybe you would like to go shopping once more before your return home. Anchorage overnight.
Day 15: Departure Anchorage
Transfer to airport or connecting program.
